Call to "curb exhibitionists at Fraisthorpe" PDF Print E-mail
Wednesday, 16 August 2006

Humberside police and local councillors appear to be coming to theconclusion - at last -  that naturists are not the cause ofcomplaints about behaviour at Fraisthorpe beach.

Following the recent complaint from a woman who was approached by a naked man at the beach, a meeting has been called with police and council officials in an attempt to "crack down on exhibitionists",  an article in the Yorkshire Post reports.

Parish councillor John Daniels said: ".. there still remains a small percentage of the minority of men who pretend to be naturists, but in reality wait for unaccompanied women."

A woman who regularly walks on the beach with her dogs said she had "no problem with nudists who lie behind screens to get their all-over tan but a minority made her nervous".

In a statement which seems to accept the fact that purely naturist activity is not illegal, East Riding councillor Jane Evision said:"There isn't a lot you can do about the naturists as I understand it and the police would struggle to bring a charge. I don't have a problem with anyone doing something as long as people are not made to feel embarrassed or uncomfortable."

She has now called a meeting with the police, Carnaby and Barmston and Fraisthorpe parish council representatives and her council to see what action can be taken.

Local rep for BN, John Wymark-Hoar, has urged the authorities to draw a distinction between naturists and people "cruising for sex in and around the small beck half-way between Fraisthorpe beach and Barmston"

It remains to be whether or not Humberside Police, under pressure from local  councillors who "want something doing", will succeed in making that distinction. If they fail to do so, law-abiding naturists at Fraisthorpe can expect to be harrassed in future in the same way as they have been in the past.

Dogs On Beaches

True naturists not a problem, but Fraisthorpe and Bridlington beach is literally a dog toilet. Whatever, if you don't like nudists, go let your dogs mess elsewhere.
