In a letter sent to British Naturism, the Commandant of the Ministry of Defence training camp at Penhale in Cornwall has announced a ban on naturists using the nearby beach and Perran Sands.
In his letter (dated 5th of July, but only recently released) Major Pawlak accepts that naturists have been discreetly using the northern end of Perran Sand for many years, but cites theactivities of "less savoury persons" as the reason for the closure.
Accordingto the Major recent incidents include: " a naked man approaching a group of young persons (minors) training with the ArmyCadet Force and another group of cadets, while orienteering, finding acouple engaged in inappropriate sexual activity in a public place."
Owing to its "responsibility for the welfare of those young persons in itscare" all nude sunbathers are now to be banned from the MOD controlledarea - the dunes and the beach down as far as the mean highwater mark. Major Pawlak hopes that Penanzabuloe Parish Council will also apply a ban on the section of beach that is under their control, stretching down to the waters edge and thus effectively"closing the beach to any and all nude sunbathing".
Apparently, both Devon & Cornwall Police and the MOD Police "fully support" this action and will be"actively responding" to any reports of inappropriate activity in the area and any instances of trespass.
So, yet again, naturists are to be punished for the activities of a tiny minority of miscreants because the authorities are unable - or unwilling - to distinguish between them and the law-abiding majority and find it expedient to try and solve a problem by sweeping and indescriminate action.
